9 Essential Tips for Getting a Spray Tan Before Your Wedding

We know how important your wedding spray tan is and we are up for the task at BlushTan San Diego as we spray 400+ brides per year! Here our are top 9 essential tips for getting a spray tan before your wedding:

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

A good exfoliator is key to preparing for your tan. We recommend our blushtan Exfoliating Mitt that we carry in studio. This will help your tan last longer by exfoliating all dead skin cells off and help remove your spray tan as it fades and help you prepare for your next appointment, especially if you will be tanning close together for events!

Do a trial run before your wedding

This is best done at least 3 weeks in advance of your wedding to ensure the color is perfect for your special day and that you have time to exfoliate all of the old tan off before coming in for your wedding appointment. We store all of your notes in studio if you want to go lighter, darker, or completely switch undertones! A trial is perfect to do with the many many events you will be attending such as your bridal shower or bachelorette party.

Check the color in photos

An important thing to note is that spray tans photograph darker so be sure not to go too dark for your wedding as it will appear darker than it is in photos.

Schedule your beauty services

All beauty services such as your nails, facials, massages, waxing, and lash lifts should be done in advance of your spray tan. How many days before your wedding should you get a Spray tan? The spray tan should be your last beauty appointment about 2 days before your wedding day.

Book your wedding tan

Your wedding tan will usually be 2 days before your wedding, so if it is a Saturday wedding, your spray tan would be on a Thursday to ensure the tan is fully developed.

Try a bronzer free solution for your wedding day

Our blushtan Clear solution is a bridal favorite to ensure that there is no color transfer onto your wedding dress especially if it is a warm day when you will be sweating.

The Day of Your Appointment

Come to your appointment with bare skin this means no lotion, makeup, deodorant, or oils since these can act as a barrier to your spray tan. During your spray tan you can wear as little or much as you like. After your appointment, wear loose dark clothing and flip-flops to ensure there is no friction with your clothing choices to cause uneven appearances.

Don’t plan anything while your tan is developing

Depending if you do our Super Express, Express, or Original solution will determine when you can rinse the bronzer off your skin. While the bronzer is setting you need to avoid contact with liquids, perfume, makeup, deodorant, tight clothes, and sweating. This means you are ideally not running around doing errands during these hours before you rinse.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

The key to having a lasting spray tan is to keep your tan hydrated by applying a water-based moisturizer every day and avoid all oil-based, exfoliating, and dove products for the length of your tan! We recommend starting with our blushtan hydrating moisturizer for days 1 & 2 and switching to our gradual tanning moisturizer for days 3+ to keep the tan extended especially if you are heading to your honeymoon right after!
